Heronswood Garden Shop

The Mornington Peninsula is famed for its natural beauty, and the area around Ellens Creek offers some of the region’s best bush walks and bird watching. The area is also renowned for its gardens. The secluded village of Mornington in the Shire of Mornington Peninsula is home to a number of private gardens tucked away in the surrounding hills. One of these gardens is The Heronswood Garden Shop, which dates back to the 1850s.

Heronswood is a grand villa, built in the 1850s, and has many interesting features, including a rotunda, a clock tower, an orangery, a conservatory and a ballroom. The gardens are extensive, and offer a variety of walks, from manicured lawns to natural areas. It’s a relaxing place to spend a few hours, or you can visit a number of the other gardens in the area, such as the Mornington Cottage Gardens, the Ellen’s Creek Gardens, and the Heronswood Botanic Gardens.

Heronswood Garden Shop is a grand Victorian home that has some of the finest gardens to be found anywhere in Victoria. The Heronswood estate, which is home to the garden, was founded by John Smith.

Heronswood is the perfect place to escape the mainland’s busy pace and enjoy the peace and quiet of the Mornington Peninsula. The gardens are expansive and feature winding pathways, reflecting ponds, a variety of ferns, rhododendrons and azaleas, and a multitude of fruit trees and shrubs. Heronswood also offers accommodation in its sprawling manor house, with all the modern amenities one would expect from a luxury hotel.

The house itself is a magnificent example of Victorian architecture and has been beautifully restored in recent years. It’s thought to be one of the finest examples of the Edwardian style in Australia. Heronswood is located in a secluded valley, surrounded by parkland and with panoramic views of the Mornington and Dandenong Ranges.

The name Heronswood is derived from the family of Heron, a Norman family who owned land in the area. The name Herons Wood came into use later, probably because there was another Heron’s Wood in Essex. The estate was owned for three centuries by the Heron family.
Heronswood is a grand old house sitting on a hill overlooking the Mornington Peninsula.

In a world of heritage homes, this one is unique in many ways. However, as many old houses, it has also seen better days. But with a bit of care and attention, it can be transformed into a charming holiday home.

Heronswood is both a place, and a vision of the future. It is a place of history, renovation and nature.
