The Town of Parkville was named after Captain James Park, who purchased Blockhouse Bay in 1823 for 1,000 pounds. He built the first house in Parkville from native timbers. The house and living facilities were used by the Park family and later by the Canadian Pacific Railway. Between 1868 and 1874, Captain Park sold the land for $10,000 to John Willcox.
