National Gallery of Victoria

The National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) is the oldest and most visited art museum in Melbourne Victoria. Founded in 1861, the NGV holds the most significant collection of art in the region and also features more than 76,000 works that span thousands of years and a wealth of ideas, disciplines, and styles.

A vast treasury of more than 76,000 works worth more than $1 billion; including paintings by Vincent van Gogh, Claude Monet, Paul Cezanne, and Jackson Pollock. Unrivaled collections from Africa, Asia, Australia, and the Pacific. Rich holdings from Europe – including paintings by Rembrandt, Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo – from ancient sculptures to contemporary photography.

The NGV is proud to present over 200 exhibitions each year including blockbuster international touring shows. The Gallery’s exhibitions are free entry on Thursday evenings after 5 pm to enjoy with friends or family.

Over 40 percent of the NGV’s collection is Australian or has Australian content with a focus on Melbourne artists as well as regional Victoria artists.
